Capture the Moment; Tell the Story.

At the beginning of each year, I set goals rather than resolutions. I find resolutions to be typified by habitual changes that often end in some sort of failure by February, just like most people. Goals somehow seem less ominous than resolutions for me - perhaps only psychologically/semantically. Nevertheless, one of my 2020 goals was to work toward “capturing the moment” and “telling the story” in my photography.

For the past two years, my work has been primarily landscapes, and even the images under the “Adventure” category from the home page on this site depict primarily a landscape with a human element. I’ve been inspired by too many photographers to count, but something I’ve seen that I want to grow into is my ability to capture the moments I find myself in when I reach an inspiring landscape and/or to tell the stories I live through with the friends I adventure with.

I’ve no doubt that in a year, I’ll have harsh critique for the series that follows, but that’s exactly why I’m placing it here. I’ll consider it the first milestone on the road to “Capture the Moment; Tell the Story.”

Which one tells the best story? Do they all help you round out yesterday’s adventure? I hope so. I feel that they do. And THAT is exactly what I want to continue to do.

It’s a short post this time. As much as I enjoyed taking these shots, I found it extremely nerve-racking slipping around in the stream on slick rocks while carrying my camera as well as the fly rod. One of these days, I keep telling myself I’ll only carry the camera. But the chance at a tight-line and a trout landing in the net always seems to sway me otherwise.

Until next time,
